👋🏼 Hello, readers.
This week I went to draw at City Hall with the Urban Sketchers group of Vancouver. We met under the statue of Captain Vancouver, the “intrepid explorer” responsible for founding the city over 200 years ago.
Dear reader, have you searched for urban-sketching groups in your city? Odds are, there is one already! Whether you are a serious artist, a hobbyist, or a curious dabbler, I recommend that you grab pen-and-paper and attend a meetup.
With summer finally showing up, USk meetups attract more attendees, and among them are a lot of first-timers. In a city like Vancouver, this means students and young professionals who have recently moved to town, seeking to align their interests with a social circle.
Because most of my art practice is a solitary exercise, I welcome opportunities to draw in the company of other people. Afterwards, some of us went for coffee, exchanged sketchbooks, and talked about the special place we have built for art in our lives.
It was a good day. 🙃
