🛳 A Ship at Canada Place
On a warm and beautiful day, I saw an enormous cruise ship at Canada Place.
I would love to go around the world on a cruise ship one day. It would be a slower way to travel, which would be a great thing for me. In my recent episode with Mike Shisler, we spoke about how air travel has shrunk our experience of the world.
While faster travel is obviously great for a number of reasons, it leaves us with a curious disability - we become ends-oriented instead of means-oriented.
A larger purpose of SneakyArt, as you know, is to make us more mindful of our environment, and appreciative of ordinary moments of beauty.
Thinking of life as a journey, a call to be more means-oriented asks that we consider how we are spending our time, and where we are giving our attention.
Life is all means and no end.
Mike is about to finish the first week of his 6-week bike-packing journey from northern Alaska to San Diego, California. Follow his incredible journey on his Instagram.
🏞 In-Person Workshops
I am planning to do a few in-person workshops in Vancouver (and maybe Seattle?). The workshop would be -
⏱ 2 hours in length
🏙 in a busy part of the city
🚶🏻♂️ focused on drawing people from observation
If you live in the area and would like to sign up, say hello in the comments!
💻 Zoom Hangout for June
This month’s Zoom Hangout and Sketchbook Tour will be on Sunday, 26 June. The event is free to attend but with limited seats. To speak with me, see my sketchbook, and ask questions about my process, grab a seat below!
🎙 Podcast Feedback
I received two lovely, re-affirming, and encouraging messages from podcast listeners this week. The first is a review on Apple Podcasts:
The second was a message with a show of support on my BuyMeACoffee page.
Honestly, I needed to hear this from someone. Episode 42 was a brave attempt to do a whole episode without a guest. Just me and the mic. Scary!
Thank you, dear reader, for your time and attention. I’ll see you this Friday with a new episode of the SneakyArt Podcast.
I've been so busy lately, and your post here is so needed. Thanks. Your growth is impressive, but the production value, and frankly, the great quality, is very attractive professionally and in a creative sense. I happened to be on the dock last month with one of those ginormous cruise ships. It makes one feel very small
Thanks again for slowing us down in life,
Ric
This is so exciting! I just discovered you and your TinyPeople and was delighted to find out that you live in Vancouver too. You read my mind because I was hoping you would give us the chance to people watch and draw with you! Busy places I can think of right now: the picnic table area between Liberty Cafe and Coco & Olive; Commercial Drive (in front of the Britannia library?); Library Square; any beach on a sunny day; Pacific Central Station (so sad we can't go inside anymore, but maybe in the grassy area outside?).. and while not exactly "in the city", YVR airport could be fun with people and all their luggage!
