Dear reader,
Sometimes it can become difficult to find the beautiful things of our world. During a difficult week, in trying times, at the end of an age, on the cusp of dystopia, I bring to you … some good lines.
The SneakyArt Post shares secretly drawn art of my world. If you like receiving SneakyArt in your inbox, tell other people about it.
As we approached the pier at White Rock, a sign declared that it was the longest pier in Canada.
We stepped onto the boardwalk with an appropriate sense of solemnity. Halfway down, I noticed to my left the natural feature that gave the town its name - a large white boulder planted on the beach, surrounded by black rocks, resting on grey pebbles.
White Rock.
Next to it, a sign requested people to not climb the white rock.
At the end of the pier, I watched people lay out traps for lobsters. Then they waited patiently. Kids loafed about, aimless on a summer day, peering into each other’s phones.
I was at the end of my drawing when I heard a seagull caw high in the air. I watched it push against the strong wind currents, gliding this way and that, completing a zigzag arc to perch on its throne above the pier. Do you see it above?
It happens sometimes that the subject of the drawing arrives only at the end. The SneakyArtist must be patient.
As I drew the imperious seagull surveying its inferiors, it felt to me like all my efforts had led up to this moment. That this drawing, this page, this moment, the drive down from Vancouver, and all the day’s work, now belonged to a seagull.
On a sunny day at the water, people lining up for ice cream are a beautiful thing to find.
I caught a special moment while recording the clip for TikTok -
