Rohan is a Sneaky Baby
Do you, or does someone close to you, have a sneaky baby too?
Dear reader,
Rohan has not been sleeping through the night. He wakes up at ~3 am, and one of must go soothe him and sleep beside him for the rest of the night. Unfortunately, I have a lot of trouble falling back to sleep. So, I hope your Sunday morning looks better than mine. (sigh)
Heavy rain is forecast today, and for much of the week ahead. I have not had a lot of time to draw outside, because of the weather but also parenting duties. Parenting does not leave much time to carpe diem the brief periods of sun and glorious blue sky that we get. I am afraid these early days of spring will slip by, and my sketchbook will have nothing to show. I am afraid these early days of Rohan’s childhood will slip by, and maybe that is the more important thing. (sigh)
The SneakyArt Post is a newsletter of secretly drawn art of the world. This is year two of being a parent, so much of my world still revolves around little Rohan. I am glad to have you here for it.

Has anyone seen a Sneaky Baby?
I accidentally left the door to my study open the other day. I call it my study but it is actually the guest bedroom. I call it the guest bedroom but it is actually a small desk, a bed, and piles of boxes we have not unpacked yet. Moving with a child is hard, dear reader. The door, at least, is still a door and it was left open, and Rohan knows he is not supposed to go in there.
He does not go in. Not exactly. His attitude is that of an ethical hacker probing for security flaws and bringing them promptly to the attention of higher management. When he sees the door open, he drops his toys and scrambles to the entrance. Then he turns around to see if either of us is looking. He waits to make eye contact. Are you not going to stop me, he asks. He takes one small step for babykind. I take a giant leap to grab him, and he giggles, and I giggle. I pick him up, and he laughs, and I laugh. You know you’re not supposed to go there, I say. Are we not free individuals, he asks. Freedom is an illusion, I remind him.
Can any society flourish under such oppression?
Dude, do you see the world right now? Try reading a book?
He grins again, but shyly this time, because I have caught him on the wrong foot. He points to his favourite book - One More Wheel! - a treatise on automotive technology and the ultimate supremacy of mass public transit. We sit down on the floor and read together.
Dear reader - do you, or does someone close to you, have a sneaky baby too?

One of my granddaughters definitely was. In her case, the fireplace, lit or not, was the attraction.
I have to inform you that she has grown into a tween who tests limits. Be prepared!
You are such a good daddy parent. Rohan will grow up happy and safe. These snippets of his life will be precious and irreplaceable when you grow old.I am getting such joy reading them now. Thanks.
