Congratulations on your book. I am loving 2025 so far with inspiring authors like you. In January I started my weekly substacks. I also have kept a nature journal with a daily practice. I found wild wonder foundation, which led me to your substacks. And, have wanted to write a book forever. Bouncing back and forth last year I decided I wanted it to be a graphic inspiring gift book. Looking forward to getting your book!!!

Thank you Geralyn. Writing a book is an ambitious goal. I self-published before and this experience with a publisher has been entirely different. I will speak about that soon as well, maybe on a Zoom hangout with readers?

It arrived!!! I’m so excited I placed my phone out side my office and put your book and my tiny sketchbook in its place on my desk. I’m up for less doom scrolling! Thank you for your beautiful book and this awesome Substack newsletter!

Happy new book, Nishant--looking forward to my copy! Curious: are you, or were you, stylistically inspired in part by Dan Price?

Ooh this is me hearing about his work for the very first time! I would say my stylistic influences are Jason Polan, Luke Adam Hawker, and the art of Bill Watterson.

Wait WHAT? He's been doing the good work of drawing what he sees for a long time. He wrote The Moonlight Chronicles, which was picked up as a full zine inserts, by Simple shoes (way back in the day). He's such an interesting person--check him out (he built his little hobbit abode in Oregon--still living underground for decades--he's an OG anti-capitalist and practitioner of radical simplicity). :)

I'm going to check out his work right away! Thank you for pointing me in this direction. 🥰

My copy arrived a few days ago. One of those books that I must read, highlighter in hand for the inspirations I’ll need to reread! And because I listen to your podcast, I hear your voice reading to me which makes the book even more fun to read. BTW I grew up near Eau Claire. Hahaha to me, this was THE BIG CITY, not a small town! Now back to (sneaky) sketching for me!!!

I would love to see what you choose to highlight! Eau Claire is such a wonderful place, and I cannot to revisit soon. :)

Hi Nishant, love the TM on the Original Idea :D

Quite nailed the answer. We have a Substack Writers' group where we all decide a theme for the month and write one post around it. And every month, we face this question--what can we write about this topic that hasn't been said or written about? And every month, we answer it with our widely unique posts.

The unique element is always the person/author and their pov--their packaging.

The larger author community also believes that there are only 7 basic story plots that get repurposed and repackaged. There are no unique or original ideas, just novel interpretations and applications, like slinky as an antenna. :D

P.S. Eagerly awaiting the book's delivery!

We over-index on originality as a magic pill. It is already SO HARD to speak as yourself from your unique perspective. 😅 I hope the book arrives soon!

I am going to receive the book tomorrow as per the Amazon email. I am so excited.

What you said resonates with me quite deeply. Books gives us time to pause, reflect and re-inspect. In the world of spontaneous reactions and arguments, the lack of dynamicity is the unique feature of a book. And we need books more than ever.

Mine just arrived. As a physical object, it has such a nice feel to it. And great to see all these examples of your work in an analog format!

The physical format is so good to see art in. It depresses me sometimes that the vast majority of people who like my work only see it on their phone screens. I am glad for this chance!
