40 - New Workshop Just Dropped!
I did my first set of Zoom-based workshops last month. And they went so well that I’m announcing a totally new workshop for this May. Seats are limited so sign up quickly!
In this week’s newsletter, looking back at Ep 15 of the podcast, some recent SneakyArt, and details about the new workshop.
Ep 15 with George Butler
The new episode was a deliberate change of pace and direction. I am more curious these days about the why of traditional media, and the why of sketching your world. I chase these questions with different guests in different ways.
The subjects of George’s art are not traditionally pretty. The people are battered by their life’s events, passing through a landscape ravaged by war and unrest. How does the artist find art? And in an age of mixed digital media, what effect does a watercolor painting have?

People Drawing Workshop
I am offering a new workshop over Zoom to interested participants. It will be a single-session class with demos, draw-alongs, exercises, techniques and hacks.
This new workshop is for you if -
You are comfortable with city or natural landscapes, but
You have trouble incorporating human figures and activity into your scenes.
Or, if you just want more quick techniques to capture the human figure
This workshop is NOT for complete beginners. If you consider yourself a complete beginner, there are still a couple of seats left in my Beginner’s Workshop for this May.
More details about the session + link to sign up below.
SneakyArt
I have been thinking more deeply about perspective in my drawings. These thoughts are the result of teaching perspective several times this month. How do I emphasize perspective? What can make it better, but also simpler?
Here are some simple lines and some clever lines, all about perspective.
Waiting for the green
In the sun is no bother
Life at traffic stops.
I follow the lines
And together we go to
The vanishing point.
Warm in setting sun
Slanting rays softly aglow
Carried by the breeze.
Thank you for reading!
Next week, I’ll have a new episode of the podcast. It’s a conversation I had been looking forward to since I began the show, and I’m very excited to be able to share it soon.
Here are some good things to do while you wait. Tell a friend about this newsletter. Share an episode of my podcast. Introduce someone to SneakyArt. Sign up for my workshop.
