Dear Insider,
Today’s post is a quick one. I am in Seattle for the weekend. It is far too warm and dry for this time of year. But tomorrow I am doing a (sold out!) workshop at Pike Place Market. Yay!
The SneakyArt (Insider) Post is the special Sunday edition written for SneakyArt Insiders.
🎙 Did you hear the new episode?
This Friday I released Ep 52 of the podcast - Chasing Horizons with Samantha Dion Baker.
To check out the show notes and (my) favourite quotes from the episode, visit here.
Do you know Samantha’s work? Have you already heard the episode? Tell me about it in the comments!
Seattle!
Seattle is the city I know from the sitcom, Frasier. But upon googling, I was disappointed to learn it was not actually shot in Seattle, and there are no actual landmarks for me to visit.
My abiding impression of Seattle as a city under constant rainfall has also been dashed. Much like Vancouver, it is experiencing a dry and unusually warm autumn. Add to that, the smoke from distant wildfires. Sigh...
Here are some things I have done in the past 24 hours:
I went sketching with Eleanor Doughty, who gave me a quick tour of Pioneer Square on her scooter.
And here’s how she drew me later that evening after coffee and drinks and Japanese comfort food, while we exchanged optimistic ideas for the end of the world.
By the way, have you heard my episode with Eleanor Doughty? It was one of my most fun and satisfying conversations. Check it out!
This morning I went to Bothell, where Gabi Campanario gave a wonderful workshop/history tour.
The weather app said the air was smoky, but I did not feel anything when I stepped out. Maybe my Indian lungs are less sensitive to AQIs under 200!
Have you heard my episode with Gabi? You should! I also recommend his Substack, On the Spot.
Afterward, Eleanor took me on her scooter to Kerry Park, where you get a wonderful view of the Seattle skyline. The wildfire smoke completely erased the mountains from the horizon, but there were already plenty of things to see.
Tomorrow is my workshop at Pike Place Market. I am excited to check out this place I have heard so much about and eager to meet my participants. Wish me luck!
