Talking about lines in Mumbai
Insider #74 with a new workshop in NYC and a chance to see my India sketchbook.
Dear Insider,
This is the last night of my stay in India. Very early tomorrow morning, I fly back to Vancouver. In today’s Insider post, I share the link to a new in-person workshop in New York City, and free seats to the Feb Insider Hangout.
The SneakyArt (Insider) Post is written for the super-readers, super-listeners, and generous patrons of SneakyArt. I share a behind-the-scenes look at ongoing projects and discuss upcoming plans with those who sustain my dream of being an independent artist, writer, and podcaster.
I was in Mumbai this weekend to meet with the Urban Sketchers Mumbai group, and speak at the India Pen Show.
I had the chance to meet many wonderful sketchers and fountain pen enthusiasts, articulate ideas around drawing with ink, and share my personal journey from engineer to artist. (To know the full story of this last part, listen to my interview on Australia’s Radio National.)
Our sketchwalk was part of the India Pen Show at Nehru Centre. As we laid down our sketchbooks for the traditional throwdown, I was able to share my travel sketchbook of the last four weeks.
One of the attendees was even kind enough to take notes from my impromptu talk. Here is everything I spoke about!
In addition to meeting many new sketchers, I had the chance to spend time with Zainab Tambawalla, the leader of the USk Mumbai chapter and a fascinating artist/animator with whom I spoke on Ep 22 of the Podcast. Listen to our conversation to learn more about the amazing work she does.
A New Workshop!
I am doing an in-person workshop next month in Brooklyn, New York, with the amazing
.Join Samantha Dion Baker and Nishant Jain in Brooklyn NY, for a special in-person workshop about being observant and mindful in public spaces. Using two very different approaches, we will learn to create a sketchbook-journal that illustrates the sights of the big city, captures the whimsy and dynamics of human activity, and records our thoughts and observations.

February Insider Hangout
I came to India with a crisp, new, accordion-style Moleskine sketchbook. I filled up the pages so quickly that I ended up drawing on the back side just to keep going!
In this month’s Insider Hangout, I will flip through the pages of this sketchbook, and chat about the ups and downs of travel sketching.
