👋🏼 Hello reader!
I took my fude nib pen out for a walk in the sunshine. We found a tree.
Can anyone tell me what tree this is? I’m looking for names. When I posted this question on Twitter, I got the following answers -
Stella.
Beatrice.
What do you think?
Share this post with someone that knows a thing or two about trees.
Margaret Plumley on Instagram suggested that I use the Seek app to identify plants, flowers, and trees. I used it today on an evening walk around the park and spotted a Cornelian Cherry and Western Redcedar!
I am going to spend some time this month identifying and drawing interesting trees in my environment.
Dear reader, do you know the trees that you live around?
🖼 Literally a SneakyArt drop.
I took the R4 bus to the Kerrisdale neighbourhood. After putting some SneakyArt in the mail (for last week’s giveaway winners!), I stopped at Starbucks for an iced coffee.
There I made one drawing for myself, and one for the universe.
This is the second one, that I left on the table for a stranger to pick up.
It feels good to cast my art into the universe this way. I wonder about all the places it will go. All the things it will see.
🏆 Tiny Story Giveaway Winners!
Last week’s tiny story thread was fantastic! Check out all the great stories.
This week’s winning entries are by Rohan Banerjee, Bala Vishal, and Chevanne. Dear winners, please hit reply to this mail and send me your mailing address to receive a SneakyArt zine!
📖 Zoom Hangout + Sketchbook Tour!
I’m doing a live sketchbook tour + q&a over Zoom on Sunday, 29 May. This is a great chance to see the “30 Days of Vancouver” sketchbook and ask me questions about my art and the podcast! I will give away zines and signed prints to audience members during the hangout.
The event is FREE for all readers, but with limited seats. So if you’re interested, hit the button to RSVP!
☕️ I get by a little help from my listeners!
This week a listener bought me 5 coffees and left the most wonderful message in support of the SneakyArt Podcast. It honestly made my day to wake up to this notification!
As an independent podcaster, I am grateful to have listeners who engage with my work so deeply. Thank you, Liz!
Besides the monetary support of my time and effort, such messages constitute an invaluable, positive feedback loop for my work. They make me better at the things I am trying to do.
And if that isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.
The trees in my life are as diverse as the two worlds I inhabit. Desert: Queen palm, mesquite and palo verde. Island: spruce, horse chestnut, crabapple--a whole orchard!
Thank you for giving me an idea for an upcoming micro essay. 🌲
