Dear reader,
When you make a habit of depicting your world in sketchbooks, a blank page becomes not only the screen but also the filter through which you see the world. This week I changed the filter.
The SneakyArt Post shares secretly drawn art of the world, my journey of self-education to be an artist, and the best ideas from the SneakyArt Podcast.

📖 Mid-tone paper
I am using a Stillman & Birn Nova series sketchbook with beige-toned paper.
I have written previously about using vertical lines of composition and seeking natural frames in my environment. This Sunday, I will share with Insiders the different ways that beige paper has affected both what I see and how I draw.
“If the white page represents infinity, every mark on it is a finite reality given form. The black line is the edge of reality, closing around recognizable shapes and forms.
In this black-and-white world, what does that make the beige, mid-tone paper?
Infinite but real, finite but formless, it is like the earth - the medium upon which all action occurs, both light and shadow…”

💻 Workshop seats
There are some seats left in my People-Drawing Workshop on Sunday, 2 October. In this 2-hour session, I will teach the fundamentals of how to draw human figures and help you draw subjects that are “gone in 60 seconds”.
Because of my uncertain schedule, this may be the last Zoom-workshop I do this year!
For more info, catch highlights from the previous session here. Visit below to sign up.
(If you are a student or otherwise unable to pay, get in touch to work something out.)
🎙 Podcast Recordings
The SneakyArt Podcast returns next week! The episode, however, was recorded before I went on vacation. Fresh recordings for the new season begin soon, and I am currently deep in research and preparation for it.
I wrote previously about the cheat sheets I make in preparation of every podcast recording. This week I am making three cheat sheets for recordings over the next two weeks.
On Sunday, I will share my recording schedule with SneakyArt Insiders. Every month, Insiders get the chance to pose questions to upcoming guests. If you are a super-listener eager for such an opportunity, sign up now to become an Insider.
🗣 Recommend a Guest
Over the summer I received some wonderful recommendations for future guests on the SneakyArt Podcast. If you can think of someone that would be a suitable guest too, please recommend them in the comments!
Thank you, dear reader, for your time and attention. I am glad to have a space in your inbox.
Who would have thought! The beige looks great!
Loving the beige, dear Nishant. So different
