Dear reader,
There are many new people reading the SneakyArt Post this week. Welcome, all. Grab a cushion. This week, like last week and the one before it, like next week and the one after it, I am on summer break.
I meant to stop publishing altogether for a few weeks. But I have not been able to do that. What kind of break is this?
I think it is a break… from the big plans. This year, I committed to focusing on processes over results, and systems instead of goals. And this summer which will end soon I am recommitting to the daily joys of #artistlife - drawing, playing with colours, pondering over lines. All the beautiful little problems to solve across infinite pages.
So.
The SneakyArt Post is
a publication of secretly drawn art of the world. Every week I share my drawings of the world, and the best ideas from my independent journey as an artist and writer.on summer break!
If you like having SneakyArt in your inbox, help me reach more people this summer.
📚 I am reading…
I am halfway through both books.
Have you read them?
Logicomix tells the story of logician and philosopher Bertrand Russell’s pursuit of rationalism in his life and works.
Covering a span of sixty years, the graphic novel Logicomix was inspired by the epic story of the quest for the Foundations of Mathematics…
Reality is not What it Seems is the fourth book I am reading by Italian physicist Carlo Rovelli. He is by far my favourite science writer. As if he were a poet, his words express a profound love for physics, and the people that have advanced our understanding of the universe.
🔈 I am listening to …
🎙 the nearly 2000-year-old story of the fall of Carthage, the land of the Phoenicians who challenged an ascendant Roman Empire and lost everything, on the Fall of Civilizations podcast.
🎙 the nearly 2500-year old story of the Achaemenid-Persian Empire - starting from the epic stand of ‘The 300’ at Thermopylae, jumping back in time to Cyrus the Great and then forward until Alexander the Great, on Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History Podcast.
🎶 Indian post-rock band aswekeepsearching, Fragments the latest album by Bonobo, and Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN.
With Insiders…
📫 This week, I am sending tiny drawings in the mail to everyone that writes a tiny story in this thread. To get a tiny drawing, just tell me a tiny story. I love to give away drawings!
💻 Last week, in the July Insider Hangout, I flipped through recently completed sketchbooks and spoke about the lessons from my new workshop - How to Start and Finish your Drawings. (Insiders have access to private video links of every hangout!)
✒️ This month, in the August Insider Hangout, I will share my art supply kit of summer, and pages from comic books that have informed my ideas about drawing, framing and page composition. To join these free-but-exclusive sessions, become a SneakyArt Insider.
Later this month I will be in New York again. I want to do a session of my new workshop! Maybe on August 19th? Readers in the Big Apple, are you interested?
Thank you for your time and attention. I hope you are having a good summer too.
You nailed it on that Natasha Mitchell interview!
Ummm, the jarring *and* italicized reminder that summer is coming to an end...was that really necessary? 😳
