[Insider 33] I left a drawing on a bench.
plus the final week of giveaways in the 30 days project.
👋🏼 Hello, Insider.
(and hello to free readers getting a peek!)
I’ve started to do this funny thing now.
In the age of MonetizeEverything.eth, I am giving away drawings. This Wednesday was Day 20 of 30 Days of Vancouver, but it also became Day 1 of “leaving art for a stranger to find.”
Intrepid readers Marta and Ruth have brought to my attention that there is a movement called Art Abandonment. I was not surprised to learn this fact and am now part of a Facebook group with 66.7k people.
So it goes.
🤔 How did this come about?
I was told to do so by an artist I admire very much. They asked me to give it to actual people that I know. And apologies to all the actual people who know me but get absolutely nothing of value from this association. Because I embraced this advice only to leave my art on benches instead.
🙃 But … why?
Because it is liberating.
I have realized that most of my constraints are of my creation. A recurring theme on the SneakyArt Podcast is that we are our own biggest obstacles.
If the work is not good enough, we are constrained by an ego that tries to stop us from making bad art. If the work is too good, it towers over our imagination, intimidating us into inaction.
The artist must be the master of their universe.
So this is also a psychological exercise to experience detachment and renunciation. Having made the drawing I cast it into the vast nothingness of the universe. Now it is free, and so am I.
🥹 Are you going to keep doing this?
YES. In fact, until 30 April, I am giving away art every day!
In addition, I will also give away original drawings to readers of this publication, starting with the readers who support my work.
SneakyArt Insiders will get a free drawing from me this week, and every week henceforth. There will be raffles, contests, big giveaways, and also little giveaways.
🧐 How can I get some?
Become a SneakyArt Insider!
A lot of people have become SneakyArt Insiders over the past 30 days. (Is it a cool thing to do?) I also blew up on TikTok this week. People have started recognizing me on the streets.
It’s an excellent time to come on board!
Becoming an Insider means supporting my art, my writing, and the podcast. I am going all-in for the creator economy, hoping that 1000 paying readers can help me thrive as an independent creator.
Are you one of them?
👋🏼 Hi, Insiders!
Pick your favourite tiny people on the page below.
Think. Is it someone you can relate with? Does it someone you have seen before, perhaps a tiny person from your world? Is it a person you know? Or is yourself you find somewhere on this page?
Write a little story about your tiny person of choice in the comments.
Top stories this week will win original drawings from me!
