As strange as it may sound, I can't tell you how much I appreciate yoru use of negative space.

I love our urban sketch group but it only meets once a month. Maybe I should start a local chapter of Introvert Drawing Club here and then we’d have two monthly meetups! Did you say the Vancouver group twice a month?

Twice, yes, but organized between a group of 4-5 volunteer hosts. You should absolutely start an introvert drawing club if you're so inclined. It's a lot of work pulling people together for in-person events, but I think it may be worth it!

Thanks for this post! I am working on organizing a drawing group in my area and this was a good reminder on why I am doing this work. Keep up the great drawings.

Community, yes! 🙌🏻 Moving to Portugal, joining a sketchers and painters meet-up group pushed me out from my safety zone of doing my art alone, and never on-location. And seeing so many different styles out there, seeing them enjoying creating art, just because, added so much colour to my usual usual.

Indeed! Joining a community is a great way to learn. In Austin, there’s a wonderful collective of musicians called the Old Phuekkerz (lol). Any musician, newbie or experienced, can join. Members add songs (punk, new wave, alternative) to a sign up sheet and sign up to play parts (vocals, guitar, bass, drums) of the songs. Newbies are encouraged to sign up for at least one song. We have shows every 3-4 months, so there’s plenty of time to rehearse. I’ve learned so much from experienced musicians and have mustered the courage to do vocals in the next show.

Also, a community is a great place to meet people who share your interests. I’ve sketched with people (outside of a meeting) I met in Urban Sketchers, as well as played music with people I met in OP.

I learned to play guitar when I was around more talented friends, simply because of how much fun it was to play together. And now that I live away from them - an entire ocean apart! - the practice has fallen away. I think I need a musical community like that to help me pick it back up!
