I love the tiny stories as much as the tiny people...

Me too! It doubles my joy from the drawing to see how readers interpret it.

I vote for Ben Wakeman's "Homeless Man". It captures a massive point of view, in a tiny story about a tiny person.

Oh, I really like us. Making little stories for a little drawings. I’ve done this the other way around as well. And it’s also super fun. Nice to come across your work. Maybe I’ll see you sometime in Vancouver :-)

Glad to have you here, Theodore. I keep thinking we need to have a Vancouver Substack Meet!

I’d like that. I actually live on salt spring, but come over to Vancouver time to time. And if you come here, look me up :-)

Thank you, Nishant, for a place to feel safe to share! The world benefits from this beautiful web of connections you’re fostering. I wish you rest and peace with your loved ones this time of year as you are reflecting on 2023 and, no doubt, planning the year ahead.

Intrinsic value, but in the direction of the image or the viewer? Could you be an artist on a deserted island if you liked your own creations? A creator for no one, stepping back once finished, to reveal an appreciative audience of one...

But I guess the next bit would be more difficult if you wanted to make a living from the art: "How much will I give me for it?"

That is a great point, Martin. The question that arises is - "Would someone completely alone have any need to make art?"

I toss this question around in my mind thinking about what I read re: Derrida, who argued that there is nothing outside the text, and the idea that we only create words to communicate something with others. Language and expression only exist because of the existence of other people in our world.

Would I create music on a deserted island? Would I write a story? Would I have any cause to say anything at all if no one else existed?

Edit: Have you read Flatland?

Ahh - a koan: what is the sound the pen makes while sketching on an uncharted tiny island

I vote for Wendy Mazur's amazing Haiku.❤️

And from hers, here's one of mine thinking about upcoming Christmas:

Only if I start,

To embrace the silent night,

Can I find my light.
