A drawing being a time lapse on paper ... This resonates with me as a description ; how often don't we say we get totally absorbed by a drawing and forget everything else?
I went to my first concert last year. I did take a few photos/videos. But one song, I could just tell it was going to be epic, and I intentionally kept my phone in my pocket. I to feel a slight tinge of regret, worried that I don’t remember those moments as fully, as well, as I should. But I do remember being filled with awe, even if I can’t perfectly remember those feelings of awe themselves.
I feel similarly about the eclipse from earlier this year, worried that I didn’t “take in” the fleeting moments of totality as “fully” as I could have or should have. But boy was it something to see.
The idea of not capturing everything, of losing something, feels so beautifully human sometimes. ❤️ I think awe also resides in these human memories, and artificial storage only commodifies and reduces it.
Loved this slightly mind bending musing. And the last paragraph - gold! Thank you for having the courage to put these thoughts on "paper" and share them with us!
While my answer would have been simple like, “a drawing is the artists interpretation of a moment in time,” I love that you put so much more thought into it. Such lovely writing and insight as always. Thank you!
Hi Nishant. I loved your comments about time. In fact, the book you mentioned by Carlo Rovelli is one I’m reading at them moment too. Synchronicity! It was nice to see the photo of your demo for SSWRAS! I so enjoyed being there! Diane.
Hi Diane! It's such an amazing coincidence that you're reading the same book. I hope you enjoy it. And I would love to hear your thoughts on it afterwards.
"A drawing encapsulates the totality of all the time spent drawing at a location. The drawn scene is not a moment, but a timelapse video on paper." Two thumbs up!

So true, Marion. We lose track of time!
This was a beautiful reflection. Thank you!
You're welcome, Katie, so good to hear from you!
After reading this, I'm definitely going to be thinking twice before I casually call a moment 'time pass'. What a beautiful thought.
Thank you Richa! 🙏

Such a beautiful meditation on time!

Thank you for reading, Sam! I think more than is healthy for me. 🫣
No I love it. Well worth the analysis!

Thank you Renato! I feel like so many ideas have lived in my mind for a long time that I hesitate to put them into words. 🙌
