Clearly your son is a cat. Loves boxes, investigates everything, nonstop unintelligible narration, licking - the signs are all there! ;)

All joking aside, children often lick things because the tongue is more sensitive to tactile sensations than hands. And you get to find out an object's flavor at the same time, which is an added bonus. :)

We lose so much in becoming adults, in doing only adult things. 🥲

On other words, he is doing what small humans have been doing for millennia, exploring his world and interpreting and explaining it in his own magical way. It doesn't get any better than being there and thus being able to experience the growth of our children. Enjoy.

Haha, apparently the first testing tool is the mouth hence the licking of the oven door. 😂 Once when I was living in a shared flat we entertained an 18 month old. He was dancing around silently - which was not a good sign, so I took a closer look. I managed to fish out a nail clipper from his mouth 😱 honestly, the thought of him swallowing it, doesn't bear imagining!

Oof! We are trying to be very careful about that, he keeps finding something.

This little boy came into a usually adult home, but I'm certain you have been Rohan proofing your home for a while now! But it is so amazing to watch how children develop with curiosity! My mother looked after my niece regularly, and Claire had the usual obsession of picking little things up, so my mother gave her letters of the alphabet (think they were soft foam, but Mum was watching) and Claire was reciting the classic "a is for apple" exercise as part of learning to speak!

Your sketches and observations are priceless and also universal and make me feel nostalgic for my own ‘not so little boy’ who is on now about to overtake me in height! Cliché incoming: cherish these days 🥰

I love your daily drawings. Your son is going to have a daily view of his growth… remember that phase? Why yes! Day 903, here it is…

I enjoy your drawings and musings. Glad I found my way here. Some day I will learn to draw/sketch. I have an interest in nature journaling or something similar as you do … sketching vignettes of neighborhood moments… I live in a very vibrant neighborhood with lots of visuals to take in… Right now for me it’s all about my poetry and music… (after the day job).

Why do babies always head straight for the grossest thing and try to put it in their mouth? No one knows...

Some cats like water. My grandmother had a cat that was found half drowned in a pool as a kitten, he was curious, fell in… this experience didn’t keep him from water his entire life, he always wanted to splash around in it. Very odd but true.

I am no expert. I have a friend who takes care of many cats and also strays… some breeds don’t mind the water, I would never have known either. My grandmother’s cat was a tuxedo kitty. I don’t know the breed. His name was Rocket by (Rocky for short), was sometimes referred to as “the little man in the cat suit”.

Rohan has a wicked alter ego that I call Rocky too. Rocky knocks the plate over. Rocky poops in the overnight diaper. Rocky won't stop crying when the car stops at a red light. Rocky wants whatever I'm holding, just to throw it away.

Severance is one of my favorite show of all time. I'm waiting to watch it with someone who understands nuance, significant clues, and doesn't take themselves so seriously. Plus, Adam Scott is amazing. He's hilarious and profound, and I understand him.

The games of felines and mice are never what they appear to be. Tom and Jerry had a competitive relationship where the power balance was in a constant state of flux. Sometimes the hunter becomes the hunted, and sometimes the hunted surprises the hell out of their opponent by surrendering and offering to share the cheese.
