Day 18. How to draw a TinyPerson.

plus some tiny stories of tinypeople.

👋🏼 Hello, reader.

Day 18 | 11am | 7 deg C | rain

It has been raining since last night. I woke up early, had coffee, looked out of the window, and went back to sleep. It’s that kind of day.

30 Days of Vancouver is a daily drawing project to explore the city of Vancouver and collect material for my next book of SneakyArt.

the starbucks on w 19th and cambie.

As the season becomes warmer, people spend less time inside cafes. They prefer to meet outdoors for every moment under the sun is precious in this part of the world.

But whenever it rains, cafes become interesting places again.

I am fascinated by the business of private lives in public spaces. Every cafe is like a collision of worlds, a locus in space and time where life comes to intersect with other life.

The job of the Sneaky Artist is to bear witness to fleeting moments of accidental art spontaneously created in this flex of everyday life.

Dear reader, thank you for adding SneakyArt to your inbox. I am glad to have you on this journey with me.

🗞 Zines are coming!

There are 12 days to go in the 30 Days of Vancouver project. During this time, I am making TWELVE limited-edition zines. Zines will contain a small selection of TinyPeople with tiny stories about them.

Each zine will contain at least one unique drawing not found in any of the others. Each zine will be printed, signed, and numbered by me. Each zine will contain a coupon for a free portrait, redeemable anytime. Consider each zine to be a non-fungible token.

Insiders have claimed 2 of the 12 zines in a giveaway this Sunday. The next giveaway is later this week. To participate, become a SneakyArt Insider!

A FAMILY SITS FOR COFFEE

The conversation turned to grades. Sam leapt off his chair to get something to drink.

“They don’t have San Pellegrino,” he said, returning after a couple of minutes. He sighed deeply in disappointment for dramatic effect.

But his mother saw through the ruse.

She always did.

This time he sighed for real.

SIBLINGS

“We’re supposed to be reading!”

“I’m bored.”

“So read.”

“Ugh.”

“You’re the disappointing child, you know that.”

“What’s that?”

“Just something I read about.”

ZIPPING UP

It isn’t going to stop raining any time soon, she said to herself. If the weather apps ever got anything right, it was bad news. She was counting on the caramel latte to improve her mood.

These were just a few tiny stories I found. If you see any yourself (scroll back up for a second look), share them in the comments!

🗓 Before you go…

🎙 On Wednesday, I will share a small portion of an episode I recorded last week with Marc Taro Holmes - the founder of the OneWeek100People and 30x30 Direct Watercolor challenges. Marc was also my guest on Ep 23 of the Podcast. The conversation will be shared in its entirety in June on the SneakyArt Podcast.

🎬 More audiograms this week, like the one I made for the PostScript with Sandi Hester.

📹 I’m posting daily TikToks.

Thank you for reading!
