156. This time, a tree library

a morning to look at trees in the park.

I walked around Queen Elizabeth Park and learned about a tree library. Afterwards, I found a Norway spruce posing in the sunshine with a Himalayan cedar leaning in the background. Very stylish.

🌲 In the park today, an interesting tree

In the park today, I was looking at an interesting tree when two strangers approached - Dan and his dog, Jude. Jude barked to be let off his/her leash, to fetch a frisbee.

“Hey Jude!” cried Dan, wearing a Beatles t-shirt. “Stop that.” Then he asked if I was a student of botany or forestry.

“No,” I said. “Just an artist, looking at trees.”

Dan told me about TreeLib and an interactive map of all the trees in Queen Elizabeth Park.

Walking about afterwards, I found an interesting cluster of trees. The rays of the sun washed over their peaks just as if they were mountains on the far horizon. When the wind blew, the east-facing leaves glittered in the golden light.

I found a bench in the shade and sat down to draw.

Also when the wind blew, some leaves alighted from their branch. They swayed in the breeze, dancing in a whimsical and languid and ultimately downward trajectory. Before coming to rest on the ground, they caught the sun one last time. They shone like drops of fire.
