Every cafe window is a carousel of inspiration

#259 back in my drawing era

Dear reader,

Every cafe window serves a dual purpose. First, in times of rain and cold, it shields us from the elements. Whatever it is like outside, inside we are warm and safe and we have wifi. Second, even as it cocoons us, it maintains our visual connection with the outside world. We can see its motions and feel its rhythms. We are apart but together still.

For the Sneaky Artist, a window is the front row seat to a non-stop carousel of inspiration.

The SneakyArt Post is a publication of secretly drawn art of the world. Every week, I share the latest pages from my sketchbook and the best ideas from my journey as an artist and writer.

A big welcome to new readers, and a big thank you to all the readers who grabbed the Black Friday deal to become SneakyArt Insiders.

After a busy month of writing, it felt good to go out just to draw.

A lady walks her dog across the street, but it tugs at the collar, clearly not in the mood for a walk. Waiting at the light, two friends are unable to close the conversation in time. The light switches back to red. They laugh and continue talking. A man, grumbling, carries a heavy grocery bag. Another man walks beside him, whistling, with hands stuffed inside his jacket.

Life is interesting, and a sketchbook is permission to observe the interesting things. Or perhaps it is observation itself that makes things interesting?

Reader, could you observe something into interesting-ness?

Last week I tried to draw a cat napping and…

I’m not sure how I did.

I made the first drawing of Giveaway Month

December is SneakyArt Giveaway Month and this Sunday, SneakyArt Insiders will have the first chance to win original art in their mail.

The Good Idea this Week

I would like to think this week, like all of last month, was full of good ideas, because I spent it writing, writing, writing. A book is a long-term project, unlike a newsletter post, and that takes me out of my comfort zone.

But, I suppose, that makes it even more important/necessary to do.

Reader, do you go exploring outside your comfort zone? Do you push against the walls of your comfort bubble?
