Love this short clip! The music was so apropos! SneakyArt is one of those rare, once in a blue moon gifts that comes into our lives, for those of us who would be so lucky. The expressions of your post sharing clever wit and skill in the drawn and written word are never confined; on the contrary, your ability to invite and draw out these very gifts in others presents us with a glimpse of a world many admire and few have lived to truly understand. This is what SneakyArt represents for me. I was interested in whether or not there would be a difference in the tone and direction of the discussion if you discovered and interviewed individuals who are artists on the side but currently work in an non-art field either because they are in the process of transitioning, or they choose to tap into their creative genius on the side. Perhaps those who are transitioning can share with the audience their mindset and benefit from becoming inspired from your authentic story. Just a thought! Thank you for sharing your beautiful work!

Thank you Celeste!

Re: your guest recommendation, I absolutely agree. I'm curious to speak with more non-fulltime artists, because I believe the 'amateurs' are the real deal. To invest leisure time and energy without the expectation of professional advancement or monetary return is genuine passion!

I enjoy the honesty of SneakyArt. Instead of maintaining a carefully crafted illusion of perfection as it seems most artists do today, you tell the truth about your experiences and there’s a refreshing truth in your art as well.

I'm so happy to hear that, Mellie. I sometimes struggle to be vulnerable, and the need to appear 'carefully crafted' is always lingering in the back of my mind. Your comment gives me more strength to be myself. Thank you!

Hi Nishant, new subscriber here - I've been meaning to say hi, and thanks for all that you do :-)

I've been following you on social media for a while, but your conversation with Amit Verma really got me hooked, especially because your life is one I really aspired to at one time.

I'm an Indian woman, also interested in art and design but got thrust into more conventional studies. I discovered urban sketching in 2013-14, while doing a PhD in Europe (which I hated at the time). Though I daydreamed a lot about switching to a art/creative career, I didn't end up giving myself the "permission" to actually do so. I kept some sketch journals, got dissatisfied with the quality of my own art and gave up on the idea. At the end, I took a pause, got a job which I enjoyed, finished the PhD and things generally worked out.

Fast forward a few years, I moved recently to Washington DC for a job, and as luck would have it got locked in for a month with the Omicron wave, in a city where I didn't know anyone. It's hard to explain how much joy I've received from your podcast. In some way, because I was so into urban sketching all those years ago, it felt like a chance to reconnect to an old self and people I used to follow. It's been such good company on winter walks, and has got me sketching again, even outdoors which I never had the courage to do.

After that long story, let me try and and answer your questions. For what I enjoy from this newsletter, it's really the chance to learn from how you see the world. So many things I've read - the idea of "permission", trying to bring more positive sum games into life, consistency creating inspiration - all strike me as instinctively true for me as well. And as you said, writing is the 3rd or 4th iteration of a idea in your head - I feel like you're doing a lot of the hard work for me here by harnessing those ideas :-)

For suggestions for insiders, just putting this out there - do you want to run/facilitate a group working through Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way? I feel like its a difficult thing to do alone, at least for me at this time, but would love to do it in a group and your insiders might be a nice audience. Finally, a sketcher I love who you might want to interview - Eleanor Doughty from Seattle.

Thanks for all you do - it's truly appreciated and brings a lot of inspiration to my life :-) Good luck for everything!

Hi Tara, so good to hear your story. We went on such similar paths. 😊

I'm glad to hear the podcast could help you through a lockdown and lonely times in DC. It's great that you are sketching again!

Your feedback is wonderful. I'm always happy to heat what resonates with readers. Thank you for sharing. I do not actually know about Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way, but a group project sounds intriguing. I will consider that!

And finally, as luck would have it, we recently confirmed a date and I will be recording with Eleanor Doughty next month! I love her work too. 😊

I love SneakyArt! Nishant, thank you for what you do. I love how you share your life through your linework and your clever writings.

I put my art practice away for so many years, because I told myself it was not good enough. I began to slowly pick it up again a few years ago, because I realized my creativity was a big part of what has been missing in my life for my mental health and well-being.

When I discovered your SneakyArt podcast, profound things started to happen. I started to feel like I was not alone, like there were others like me. Thank you for encouraging me to give myself permission to focus on making art again (& even calling myself an artist!) SneakyArt to me is that sneaky little voice inside of me that encourages me to keep drawing no matter what.

This is why I love your work and became an Insider. But just as much as your work, I admire your story - who you are and what you do for the creative community. You are authentic and you genuinely care about your audience. Thank you.

I do not have any specific recommendations at this time. I feel like I am just soaking it all up like a sponge. Thank you!

Thank you, Lisa! I am so proud to know that my podcast could help you bring art back into your life, and glad to give you the "permission" that I too have received from others.

Thanks again for your support! 🙏🏼
