202. Come see me draw
workshops and events this fall, and the drawings going to insiders this week.
Dear reader,
I am on a break. But not really? SneakyArt Insiders have been writing tiny stories. I am making tiny drawings to send for every story.
In today’s post, some upcoming events, and links to recent popular posts. Readers living in the Vancouver area, come see me draw!
🎤 I am speaking at
PechaKucha Nights | downtown Vancouver | Thursday 14 September 6:30 pm
From the website:
PechaKucha Night is a fun and informal hour and a half of culture, ideas, creativity, passion and opinions. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: each presenter shows 20 images for 20 seconds each - a 6 minute and 40 second dose of ideas.
Fun!
My slides will feature tiny people I have found all over the world. I will speak about some things I have learned from observing my environment as a sneaky artist.
Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 am PT and are expected to sell out quickly. If you live in the Vancouver area, bookmark this link.
🖼️ I am displaying at
The Surrey Art Gallery | Surrey, BC | Thursday 7 Sep 7 pm
Nishant Jain carries a sketchbook with him everywhere he goes. In this talk, he will share the travel sketchbooks he has accumulated over six years of observational drawing in cafes, at airports, on street corners, and various public spaces around the world…
This is a FREE 60-minute event during which I will -
📖 display travel sketchbooks and art supplies,
✍🏼 demo my quick sketching style, and
🗣️ speak about using sketchbooks to engage deeply with your environment.
There will also be time to chat afterwards. So if you live in the area, let’s meet!
🙋🏽 Am I Teaching?
I have not fixed dates yet, but yes! I will do workshops in September, both virtual and in-person.
More details soon. Meanwhile, I am curious to know what you would like to learn from me. Share your thoughts in the comments.
🔐 With SneakyArt Insiders…
💌 I am sending tiny drawings to everyone that writes a tiny story here or here.
🎙 I spoke about the long path to success, and the need to play infinite games.
📖 I wrote about how Italo Calvino made me re-think the very idea of a story, and my own failed attempts at writing a novel.
💻 This month’s Hangout is on Aug 26. Become an Insider to grab your free seat!
Thank you, dear reader, for your time and attention. I am glad to have a space in your inbox.
I love your sketches of cafe life, especially with the addition of color. I aspire to learn that.

Oh look, they're selling purple heirlooms. I wonder if they'll give me a taste before I buy?
"Could I please sample one of these?" The vendor cuts a wedge from one he's already cut open.
"Oh my, they are rather tart, aren't they?"
"Yes, they have a strong flavor, good for sauces."
"Hm ... thank you, but I'll take a pound of those reds and the yellow ones too."
